Over the moon to have Kid Phantom (an Australian comic) front and centre of the Animation department for Griffith Film School.

Since I've trained ten hours over last night and today, and I have to fight tomorrow, I'm tired, so this is all I have to document right this moment. Cheers :)

Sydney OZ Comic-Con Video, GFS Animation, ACMI SUperhero Symposium: News Dump-Nov 2016

I'm hopeless at this blog thing. Flat out with September Oz Comic-Con events in Sydney and Brisbane, picked up a new, ongoing series which I can't say much about at this point, but it's a dream gig, and it's keeping me up around the clock to get the first deadline. More soon.

In the meantime, three posts from the last week, adding to the busy-ness, and some news regarding a graphic novel I've almost completed (with Christian Read and Gestalt Comics) to be announced and released, coming soon. WIll be nice to see the last two years of drawing actually see the light of day.
One is a video from recent Sydney Oz Comic-con.

Looking forward to speaking at ACMI in Melbourne next month (bottom story), and perhaps a day of rest :P

Soldier Legacy/Human Fly comic images in 'Shadow of a Mouse' Art Exhibition

Beginning next week (and opening night on Thursday 24th October if you're in the area):

'Shadow of a Mouse' Art Exhibition at  the Royal Queensland Art Society Petrie Terrace Gallery.

As well as illustrations and sculpture from some very talented Animation/Film School post grad/lecturers, I'll have prints on display at A1 size- using original Comic illustrations featuring 'The Soldier Legacy', pages from 'The New Adventures of the Human Fly', and perhaps 1 or 2 concept art images from 'The Maleficus Seven'...depending on the room ;P

These will be 1 of only 1 A1 sized poster prints that I do plan to sell if anyone is actually interested. Will take photos and post online during the exhibition.

OzAnimate's 25th Ann. GFS Animation Exhibition coverage

Paul Lalo, a QCA graduate and founder of 'OzAnimate', has posted up a video of the opening night of the 25th Anniversary of Griffith Film School Animation Exhibition held on Friday the 31st of August. What's rather fortunate about this video is that there's a few shots of one of the pages they picked from my art, a page from 'Soldier Legacy #3', featuring the Grandson of 'The Soldier'.

Also featured in the exhibition was an early bunch of concept art scribbles from 2009, looking for the design of 'The Soldier'.

Photographs of the screenings on Saturday, and Sunday's 'Where are they now?' Panel that I was asked to take part in, are also up to they GFS site: http://animation.griffithfilmschool.com/photos-from-sat-sun-screenings-and-presentations/ I was in awe of the calibre of animation talent at this, with past students (now experienced pros) working across a gamut of companies, from Disney, Animal Logic, Liquid, and even their own production studios. The common theme seemed to be hard work, tenacity and patience. Many of these folks took years and years to make any significant headway in their chosen profession; this is something I have to remind myself. I must reflect on the fact that I've hit a few goals in just 2 years of doing this character- succeed or fail, I just have to keep plugging away.

One of the other pieces they printed for the exhibition didn't make the walls due to space, (the Superman vs OMAC pic on the right) but was nicely given to me by the uni. Very unexpected, and I thank them very much :D I've never bothered to have any of my own images up in the house before, except for one or two to hide some bare brick space downstairs, so now with this image, I've made a small space in the corner so I can look up at them and cringe at all the glaring errors I can see. Onward ;P

'The Soldier Legacy' to be a part of the 25th Anniversary of Griffith Film School Animation

It was very kind of the organisers of the 25th Anniversary of Griffith Film School Animation to invite me to partake in some of the festivities coming up in the next week or so. I am very much looking forward to chatting with past alumni students and viewing all the great artwork from past and present, including a couple of my own bits and pieces on display.

They were also very kind to write an article on my goings on since developing the Soldier Legacy comic from a uni concept to its current incarnation. I sound so much smarter and more successful in the world than I probably am ;P But, we'll roll with it, yeah? It doesn't happen very often.

The Soldier goes international! at the 5th Jilin International Animation and Comics Exhibition, China 2011

Thank you to my associate uni project supervisor Andi Spark for arranging the images and providing me with photos from her recent trip to the 5th Jilin International Animation and Comics exhibition in China this month. I am very appreciative to have the work exhibit overseas at this event and for her to arrange this to occur. These images were part of the recent Gympie Regional Gallery exhibit "Drawing and Animation" arranged by QCA, taken straight from issue 2 of the comic. I believe there was talk of the entire exhibition moving up to Mackay, unsure if these is going to occur, or has already occurred, but I will find out.

Come by, get a sketch of your favourite character and pick up a copy of 'The Soldier Legacy #2' Brisbane RNA on the 1st -3rd April or Melbourne Showground 9th-10th April. While you're there, pick up a copy of the special Supanova convention comic 'Tides of Hope'- full of contributions from International and national wirters and comic books artists with the aim to raise funds for QLD Flood relief. I was lucky enough to be able to contribute- see the full colour piece along with such names as Chris Sequeira, Chris Claremont, Jan Sherpenhuizen, W.Chew Chan, Stewart McKenny, Tim McEwen, Lenil Francis Yu...you know, I'll wait until Tim McEwen posts all the names this weekend...over 50 contributers and I'm drawing a blank :P http://twitter.com/TimMcEwen67

Also, if you're in Gympie from 5th April to the 14th of May, Griffith University Queensland College of Art is running an exhibition at the Gympie Regional Gallery titled "Drawing and Animation", showing works related to drawing and the procress of creating images (Traditional vs. Digital) in the realms of animation and illustration. I am also lucky enough to have pages from 'The Soldier Legacy #2' (pencils and final colour prints) on display for the show, amongst Fine Artists and Animators Paul Cleveland, Andi Spark, Louise Harvey, Matt Ditton, Chris Denaro, Xin Li and Zhi-Ming Su.

It's funny, I haven't had any illusions of becoming a fine artist since getting my first Uni degree with a fine art major (where I had to be convincing to let them allow me to produce comic book/cartoon style work for exhibitons), and someone scored the ability to have my work up in that realm again. Very privilaged and excited. I'm only sad that I believe the opening night is the same day as the Melbourne Supanova...

Anyways, I really have to get back to work (too many meetings and email answering and not enough actual 'producing') before my day-off is over and I'm back to my day job.
