Sorry!
Sorry for the delay in things folks! The uni has had me flat chat for most of the year, having a great time teaching the first years some things in first semester, and the 2nd years this semester. Pics to come from the great shows I was a guest of recently (Melbourne Oz Comic Con in July, Sugar City Con in Mackay, ZICS in Brisbane, OZ Comic Con Brisbane and Sydney), including a very kind Sunday Mail article on ZICS (with a big pic of the Soldier...and no, I DON'T hate the Phantom ;P), and the trade paperback hitting King's Comics in Sydney, Superhero Comics in Newtown, and the latest reprints hitting All Star Comics in Melbourne. I'm overwhelmed with the recent response to the books, and I have you guys to thank for it. Anyways, here's an update from the 'Soldier Legacy Facebook page. Sept Updates: BWF, Brisbane Supanova, ZICS, GRAPHIC! at Sydney Opera House, Geek Speak, The Comic Spot reviews...Phew!
Arrgh, too swamped to even make this one coherent. Will do my best:
Firstly, Brisbane Supanova have announced me as a Guest. Very proud, considering too, one of the first industry guys to ever give me feedback on my work (the original Soldier Legacy #1 pages) was John Higgins. A gentleman, we caught up recently at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and I'm honoured to be on the Guest list with him. His Razorjack series and Judge Dredd art is beautiful.
Tickets go onsale for Brisbane in November today I believe...hope to see you guys there?

To my surprise, I had been remembered for my uni research topic- I'm studying a DVA (doctorate of Visual Arts), looking at comic books, creator methodology and superhero stuff (to be general, you can tell I'm in a hurry, can't you?) at QCA, Griffith University at Southbank. Anyways, next month, the organizers of GRAPHIC! at the Sydney Opera House, have kindly asked me to moderate a Focus Q & A panel with Will Eisner Comic Book Award Hall of Famer, Len Wein. Details below:

Len Wein is a comic book legend: an industry veteran who has changed the face of not only comics, but pop-culture as we know it. A former Editor-In-Chief of Marvel, DC, Top Cow and Disney Comics, Len will now grace GRAPHIC to give audiences an intimate look into his innovative yet timeless approach to comic book storytelling.
The co-creator of iconic characters such as Wolverine and Swamp Thing, Len is celebrated for reviving The X-Men universe with mutant favourites including Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus and Thunderbird. Writing for a breathtaking list of long-running titles such as The Hulk, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Thor, Green Lantern, Justice League of America and Superman... Brisbane Writers Festival at the State Library of Queensland at the start of the month, with Zac Smith-Cameron, Me, Eddie Campbell and Dylan Horrocks (L to R) discussing Creator-Owned Comics (Moderated by Luke Humphris on far right). Loads of fun, an honour to share the stage and converse with these gents, great to sign a couple of Soldier Legacy comics after the show and chat.

Also, ZICS aka The Zine and Indy Comic Symposium was on at the Edge, (as was the above panel), where I got to meet a few cool Zine folks, comic folks, old friends and sell some Human Fly/Old Soldier Legacy books, and speak on a number of different panels; some of the most intellegent and challenging questions I've ever heard on a comic panel, and stoked to be a part of such a well run event. Thank you gents, a nice surprise and much appreciated. Not *quite* right with the issue numbering etc. but I couldn't care less; it was a lovely surprise. I cringe looking at these older issues (and my early attempts at comics), so for someone to find something nice to say about them is always a plus ;D

Hey All,
Sorry I don't have much time to chat, hope you all are well :D Brisbanites, I do hope if you're out and about next weekend, you'll be stopping by 'The Edge' SLQ at Southbank for the Zine and Indy Comics Symposium, kicking off Friday night and running Saturday and Sunday from 12-6. I've been kindly invited along as a guest, so I'll be either at a table doing sketches, with heaps of prints and some leftover Soldier Legacy and SDCC Folio books from 2012 and 2013 at the table, or I'll be chatting at a couple of panels- one on Saturday and two Sunday. Check out the Schedule above :D
Saturday 4 - 5:30 "Us vs Them"
12:30 - 2:30pm : 30 min. Workshop block in the 12:30-2:30 "Skillz 2 pay the Billz" (1pm, but stick around for the others)
2:45 - 4:00pm "Voices- Message based comics and Zines".
I might just hammer out free character head sketches, yeah? Leave you folks with more money for comics, zines and print ;) Want something bigger with more detail? THEN we can talk.
