Hey All,

Sorry I don't have much time to chat, hope you all are well :D Brisbanites, I do hope if you're out and about next weekend, you'll be stopping by 'The Edge' SLQ at Southbank for the Zine and Indy Comics Symposium, kicking off Friday night and running Saturday and Sunday from 12-6. I've been kindly invited along as a guest, so I'll be either at a table doing sketches, with heaps of prints and some leftover Soldier Legacy and SDCC Folio books from 2012 and 2013 at the table, or I'll be chatting at a couple of panels- one on Saturday and two Sunday. Saturday 4 - 5:30 "Us vs Them"

12:30 - 2:30pm : 30 min. Workshop block in the 12:30-2:30 "Skillz 2 pay the Billz" (1pm, but stick around for the others)

2:45 - 4:00pm "Voices- Message based comics and Zines".

I might just hammer out free character head sketches, yeah? Leave you folks with more money for comics, zines and print ;) Want something bigger with more detail? THEN we can talk.

The following weekend (Sunday 8th September back at The Edge, State Library of Queensland) I'll be chatting on the 'Well Drawn- Creator-Owned Comics' panel at 1pm, with Eddie Campbell, Zac Cameron- Smith and Dylan Horrocks, as part of the Brisbane Writers Festival. My Central Coast family. The juniors, Matt and Heather, began Taekwon-do at my school about 8ish years ago, and continued on at my best mate's school (Gary) when I left to study at QCA in '06. Very proud of them.

2nd Fight.

A tough fight; was humbled to hear from Master and several competitors it was the bestfight of the division, and an unlucky draw to get the eventual gold medalist so early, and off his Bye. 2 Judges awarded it to RED, 1 to BLUE and a Draw. Haven't lost a fight in years. It was tough,  the rules were different, but not as good on the day. It's been a big year. Regrouping begins.

The nice Hyper weight guy from Ireland who requested this photo "...of the bloke who knocked me out". 5 seconds into our team sparring match, he was asleep on the mat. Sorry mate. Was still a little agitated after the last loss.  Discovered later this gent got the Bronze medal in Hyper weights, so I felt a little better about the day overall. All the best, mate.

A smattering of photos from the Unified ITF Taekwon-do Open World Championships, held in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK in July/Aug. I recently attended it straight after San Diego Comic-con. A tonne more photos, but this is probably more than enough reminiscing on a great trip for now. 4 world championships, 5 teams...mixed emotions in general, but opportunities to continue in the future, and perhaps a coaching role on the Australia team too. Life is turbulent enough at the moment to think ahead. Will bury myself in the next challenges and see if the sun comes up tomorrow.

Updates- Some SDCC stuff, Brisbane Writers Festival Guest, & Nerdculture ;D

Couple of quick updates between training sessions in England (over here prepping for next week's Unified ITF World Taekwon-do Championships.)

We also got some really cool news, which to us proves that you CAN get comic opportunities at SDCC. Can't really say much more, but  successful pitch, and work to do soon :D

 The Gestalt Comics gents Wolf (Publisher/EIC) and Skye (Art Director, in the middle), along with the awesome Fillbach bros. (Star Wars: Clone Wars).

The fantastic dude Greg Capullo (Batman)- Awesome to catch up with an enthusiastic and nice guy, and meet his lovely wife; Cheers, "Big Greg".

Got to meet a gentleman whose work I have loved and admired for years- Mr Klaus Janson (best inker in the business and fantastic penciller (Daredevil: End of Days), and author of DC's Comic book guides to Penciling, and Inking volumes). Stoked to meet him, and talk a little academic stuff too.

One of the nicest guys on the planet, let alone comics; Mark Waid (Superman:Birthright, Kingdom Come, Daredevil, Hulk), with equally nice guy, and (as of last week's SDCC) Eisner winner, Chris Samnee (Daredevil) after his "Spotlight" panel.

Along with Jack Kirby and Greg Capullo, John Romita Jr. is one of my biggest heroes in comic books, due to his skill in storytelling and work ethic. Was lucky to get the opportunity for another quick picture with the guy after his last panel for SDCC 2013. Cool dude.
